On all my social media, everyone is talking about the dreaded New Years resolution. Some of my friends have even broken theirs – simply hours after making them.
If the truth be told I normally hedge my bets when it comes to resolutions. In the hope that if I choose 4 or 5 and manage to make 2 or 3 last the full year, then statistically I have had above average success.
This year though, things are changing. I really want to feel like I’ve made a resolution that is achievable. I am too old to pluck ludicrous ideas out of thin air – the realistic route is what I have chosen for 2018.
So where do I start?
- No, and I MEAN NO drive through dinners from our favourite go-to drive through’s. That’s no McDonald’s or Burger King for a Year. I can stop and grab a drink but no burgers, fries or overpriced ice creams. I have nothing against the brands, but it’s a challenge for me to avoid them for an entire year… and my waistline will thank me for sure.
- Lose 5 stone. Yes, this is a big figure and around the equivalent of a 40″ Sony Bravia Widescreen TV, an Irish Setter or a gold brick. I have really let myself go so I want to get back to my pre-university weight!
- Travel to three new places – simple and what I love doing so I should have this one in the bag.
- I’m not eating out unless I can find a voucher code or get some kind of a deal. Yes, this probably sounds pretty tight. Sadly though I eat out around 4 times a week – so I could probably be doing something about reducing the cost of this!
So there you have it, 4 achievable New Years resolutions. Lets hope I can stick to them for the next 365 days!

What are your New Years resolutions? Everybody needs to set at least one and saying them out loud is supposed to make it easier to stick to them. So go on, do tell…
